The Maharim of Padua was an extraordinary Lithuanian genius who was born in Brisk in 1796. His father was the author of “Minchat Aharon” (colleague of Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin) and a direct descendant of the Maharam of Padua. He was well-known from a young age, and in 1837, after the death of Rabbi Aryeh Leib Katzenelboigen, he took over the Brisk rabbinate until his death in 1855. His printed works include: Teshuvot Maharim, Mekor Mayim Chaim, Ketonet Pasim, Chatzi Yehonatan, Nachlei Mayim Ein HaMayim, and Netifei Mayim.
