Manuscript – large anthology of compilations about the daily routine, various blessings and Kabbalistic Talmudic commentaries. [Yemen c. 17th/18th centuries.] Fascinating gloss on page 9a handwritten and signed by the gaon Rabbi Sallam Menutzrah: This leaf discusses the custom of some people to eat the afikoman [!] after drinking all four cups of wine (and not according to our custom, by which two of the four cups of wine are drunk after eating the afikoman), and the Ramba”m states “This is against everything” on the topic. Regarding the expression “against everything, ” Rabbi Sallam wrote in his hand ‘We can learn from this, as Chaza”l said, that the Ramba”m[‘s opinion] is not overruled – if even a thousand Talmudic sages disagreed with him, the halachah is determined by his opinion, as he said here, ‘against everything’ … the youth Sallam Menutzrah.’ Yemenite Jews are known to hold the Ramba”m’s decisions and methods in a unique place, not paralleled by any other community. We have not found the origins of a large part of this collection, and this may be their only record. One passage was copied from the book Yessod Teshuvah , which was printed for the first time in Krakow, 1583. [89] written pages, [45] leaf. 21 cm. Moderate condition. Worming perforations with damage to the text. Wear and tears in the margins of the leaves, some with damage at the end of the lines. Not bound.
