Awe-inspiring composition mingled with Parde”s HaTorah and orders of sanctity, pure sayings on the Oral and the Written Torah, mussar, halachahs and kabbalistic customs, by Rabbi Yeshayah HaLevi Horowitz, Av Beit Din of Dubno, Ostroh, Posen and Prague … Second edition, to which the index “Tavlah shel Shayish” was added. Two title pages, the first a lovely copper engraving made by Avraham bar Ya’akov the convert, painter of the well-known Amsterdam haggadah, and an additional title page for Vavei HaAmudim. Chassidim speak of the printing of the Shla”h, which is full of Parde”s of the Torah, in the year נח”ת – causing nachat ruach (spiritual satisfaction) in the upper and lower worlds. They connect its printing to the birth of the the Ba’al Shem Tov that same year. The Admo”r the Rayya”tz writes in his missives (ח”ט ב’ אלפים תתנ”ג): “It was elegantly reprinted in the year Nacha”t and the mnemonic for this is that the publishing of the holy book caused nachat ruach (spiritual satisfaction) Above. That year the light of all Israel was born, our teacher the Ba’al Shem Tov. He would say that he was born in the year the Shla”h was printed to illuminate the world with the light of G-d … and the disciples of the Besh”t would say that its merit and righteousness are great, as it was elegantly printed and became renowned in the entire Jewish diaspora, and it merited to be printed in the year our teacher the Besh”t was born.” Refer to Keter Shem Tov, Keha”t edition, 2004 page 420.
