The ‘Ohel Sarah’ synagogue was established in 1890 – Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv learned on his own with tremendous diligence for many long years in the synagogue.
Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv [1910-1912] was born in Shavel, Lithuania as an only son after 17 years of marriage. In 1934, he immigrated to Israel with his family who settled in the Meah Shearim neighborhood in Jerusalem. He served as dayan in the Great Rabbinical Court and eventually became the greatest adjudicator of the generation.
