Manuscript. Responsa by Rabbi Yaakov son of Avraham Kalfon. Includes responsa and approbations from other North African rabbis: "Rephael Aharon Monsonego ... and Rabbi Yaakov Berdugo" with approbations from other Fez rabbis (siman 8), Rabbi Yaakov ibn Zur and Rabbi Avraham HaTzarfati (siman 9) and Rabbi Avraham Toledano and Rabbi Eliyahu Avudraham (siman 11). 19th century.

Rabbi Yaakov Kalfon [1808-1855] was the Av Beit Din in Tétouan, Morocco. He was a liturgical poet and the author of Mishpatim Tzadikim and other works.
Stains, tears and blemishes to some leaves. Moderate-fine condition.
"I wrote this book for the salvation of the precious youth Elishama Berachiah Chaim Fuah to praise and thank G-d on the night of the Day of Judgement, and during shevarim and teruah (shofar blowing). And the the final one is most precious, for a siyum Torah."
Liturgical poems based on biblical language, and similar in rhythm and rhyme to hymns familiar from prayers. Includes the liturgical poem "אשת נעורים אומרה לאלו-היה" by Chananiah Elyakim Rietti, which is traditionally recited on the second day of Rosh HaShanah in Italy; a tune for shofar blowing starting with "מלך משפט אהב חפץ" marked with the acrostic 'משולם.'

Shir HaShirim scroll written on parchment, placed in a decorative silver-plated case. "שיר השירים" ("Song of Songs") is engraved on the case.
Parchment width: 15 cm. Ashkenazic script.

I: Excepts from Nur Elstzalem by Netanel son of Yeshayah on Torah portions Bereishit-Lech Lecha (23 leaves).
II: Excepts from the Ramba"m's writings in Arabic: Elucidation of Pirkei Avot with Shmoneh Prakim and his commentary on the 13 fundamental principles [of faith] from his commentary on Perek Chelek (31 leaves).

Torah scroll brought from Yemen, written on reddish gevil. Lacking some sheets in the middle, from chapter 7-13.
The column of the first part ends in Vayikra 7:34 with the words "ואתן אתם לאהרן הכהן ולבניו לחק עולם מאת בני ישראל" ["And I have given (these parts) to Aharon the Cohen and to his sons, it is an eternal statute for all generations for the children of Israel"] the column of the second part begins from Vayikra 13:11 "צרעת נושנת הוא בעור בשרו וטמאו הכהן לא יסגרנו כי טמא הוא" ["Then it is chronic leprosy in the skin of his flesh, and the priest shall declare it impure. He should not quarantine it, for it is (chronically) impure."]
50 lines to a column, parchment width: 48 cm.
Overall fine condition, few cracks in the parchment, minimal tears in the margins.
