Handwritten circumcision ledger, in which are listed over 2,500 circumcisions conducted in the city of Vienna and the surrounding area by the mohel Yaakov Hirsch Fischer.
207, 119 pages. 13x22 cm. First writing and counting in Hebrew and second counting in German (it seems that the German section contains an index of the circumcisions).
A very valuable historical ledger. On the cover the mohel wrote: "The Book of the Children Circumcised by Me, Yaakov Zvi Fischer" and on the title page is written: "the second part of the list of the children circumcised by me, today, Wednesday, the eve of Rosh Hashana, 1882, Yaakov Hirsch Fischer of Kalin." From the body of the ledger it seems that his main place of residence was in Vienna (see circumcision no. 1817), but he also serviced dozens of villages and towns throughout Austria, and there is no room to list them here.
The list begins with circumcision 1817 and ends with circumcision 4266. Therefore we find that 2549 circumcisions took place between 1883-1898. Each inscription includes the name of the child and his father, the date of he circumcision, and who the sandak was. The writer also notes if someone else did the periah, and in many places the location of the circumcision is mentioned.
Old original cover. A few aging stains. Very fine condition.
