Autograph from the well-known jewelers Mouline Bautte & Moyiner in Paris, to Jean-Francois Bautte in Geneva, regarding a unique necklace which was ordered by the Baroness Gittel Rothschild of Frankfurt, the wife of Meir Anshel, the founder of the dynasty. 1833.
[2] attached leaves. 25x20 cm. Written on both sides of the leaf. French. The addressee's address is on the last page. Postal stamps. Autograph.
The letter deals with a necklace ordered by the Baroness Gittel Rothschild of Frankfurt. This necklace was ordered especially for her, apparently on the occasion of her 80th birthday, which was in 1833. The necklace caused unpleasantness. In the letter it says that the Baroness had already paid for the necklace, and regretted it. It is not clear if the Baroness took the necklace. There is a hypothesis which claims that this is the necklace which the Baroness is wearing in her famous portrait, which was painted by the Jewish artist Moritz Daniel Oppenheim in 1835.
The letter also deals with jewels which were ordered by the King of France [Louis Phillippe, the last king of France before Napoleon's revolution].
The company Bautte & Moyiner was founded in Geneva by Jean-Francois Bautte, Jacque-Dauphin Moulinier, Jean Gabriel Moynier at the beginning of the 19th century. The company was the leading company in Geneva for watchmaking and jewelry among the European nobility and bourgeoisie of the time.
Jean Francois Bautte [1772-1837] was an expert watchmaker who invented an especially thin watch.
Baroness Gittel Rothschild [1753-1849] - Baronesse Anselm de Rothschild from Frankfurt, the wife of Meir Anshel, the founder of the dynasty. She lived to an old age, and died at the age of 96.
