A mohel notebook which includes 489 inscriptions of circumcisions between the years 1824-1859, seemingly in one of the communities of Hungary or Slovakia.
19 paper leaves. 17x10 cm. Ashkenazi writing. In the introduction to the notebook the mohel writes that he conducted 80 circumcisions before he began listing them, and therefore he started the list at number 81 and continued until number 489. The notebook is bound at the end of the book Sod Hashem V'Sharvit Hazahav. Vienna, 1814. On the front cover and at the beginning of the book its owners name is written "Yechezkel Schiffer," and it seems that he is the mohel. On a typewritten note which is stuck to the cover's lining is written: "From the books of Rabbi Dov Ber Dushinsky who was av"d of Nameszto."
Rabbi Dov Ber Dushinsky (1837-1922), one of the students of the Chatam Sofer, was the rabbi of Nameszto for 50 years [see about him: HaChatam Sofer V'Talmidav]. In the inscriptions in English at the beginning of the book is written that the book also belonged to Hirsch Steiner of Bobrov.
Impressive old leather cover. Aging stains. Fine condition.
