Elucidation of the positive and negative commandments as received by Rabbi Chaim Vital from his great teacher the Ari. This is the fifth of the eight "She'arim" arranged by Rabbi Chaim Vital.

Unique features: Ends with a colophon: "This is the end of Sha'ar HaMitzvot, the fifth Sha'ar...this manuscript by copier Yitzchak 'n ...a straightforward, G-d fearing person....R' Mordechai Tapiya..."

Background: Rabbi Yitzchak Tapiya was the Av Beit Din of the Portuguese community in Tunis. He was a sage, proficient in Torah and worldly affairs. His nephew, Rabbi Yitzchak Bonan, author of Ohel Yesharim and Shu"t Di Hashiv (Leghorn, 1857) profusely extols his personality [refer to Od Malchei Tarshish, p. 179].
