Content: Large work on the Jerusalem Talmud, Tractate Bikurim, with the text of the Talmud. With approbations from Rabbi Yosef Dov Soloveitchik of Brisk and Rabbi Yaakov Yosef of New York. Decorated title page followed by a "manoach shlucha" within a decorated border.

Unique features: One of the first Hebrew works printed in Chicago, and one of the first scholarly works printed in America in general. In his preface, the author discusses conditions in America.
Rare work. The number of pages in this copy matches the listing of the Bibliography of the Hebrew Book; however there are a few copies with an additional frontispiece. Owner stamps, Eliyahu Hercenberg of Libau, rabbi of the "Chevrat Anshei Korland Brooklyn," and Zvi Hirsh HaKohen of Jerusalem.

Background: Rabbi Avraham Eliezer Alperstein [1853-1913] was born in Kobrin and studied with his relative, the Ridvaz. He served as rabbi in Novogorad and Slobodka. In 1880, he moved to the United States where he served as rabbi in Chicago and New York.

Condition: Excellent. Nice, new binding.
