"Hatzfira" - the first Hebrew newspaper in Poland during the time of Russian rule, and one of the most important Hebrew newspapers printed in Eastern Europe. Founded in Warsaw in 1962, but the events of the time - the Polish Uprising of 1863 and the appointment of the newspaper's editor, Slonimsky, as overseer of the Beit Midrash L'Rabbanim in Zhitomir, led to cessation of printing of the newspaper after half a year and only 25 issues. Slonimsky succeeded in renewing "Hatzfira" in 1874 in Berlin, the newspaper returned to Warsaw a year later, where it remained for as long as it existed.

The Artillery Newspaper - The Jewish Brigade - 1943. Reference to the Events of the Holocaust
Internal newspaper no. 3 of the Jewish Brigade. Great Britain, HaShomer HaZair printing press. January 24, 1943.
Extensive reference to information received at the time from abroad, written in present tense: "The terrifying information we are receiving from the diaspora about the destruction of our nation shocks and horrifies each and every one of us... if the refugees of the diaspora should ask us after the War: what did we do during these days of Holocaust, where were we when the danger of destruction and extermination hovered over the Jewish people - what will we answer them? When we were given the opportunity to gird a sword and take our place as partners in the redemption of the world - did we fulfill our mission?... Over seven million Jews are in the hands of the enemy for cruelty and not kindness... all of the events of a history replete with murder of hundreds of our nations - are insignificant in comparison with what is currently being done to us...".
