Be’er Mayim Chayim al Chumash Bereishit – Torah thoughts according to the weekly Torah portion. One of the earliest and most important books of Chassidism by the Admo”r Rabbi Chaim of Chernowitz. Incomplete copy.
This is the first edition of Be’er Mayim Chayim as a book in its own right (“Be’er Mayim Chayim” was published in Sudiklev in 1820 as one commentary among others in a chumash.) From this edition onward, it has been printed in as a book on its own.
The title page does not mention the place of print, just “as printed in Mohilev,” despite the fact that even the chumash edition was not printed in Mohilev, rather in Sudiklev, yet the title page indicates “in Mohilev” (refer to Y. Cohen, HaDefus HaIvri B’Chernowitz , Areshet III, 1961, page 295).
Rabbi Chaim Tirer [1740-1818] was among the leaders of the Chassidic movement and rabbi of Chernowitz. He was known by the name of this book, as the Be’er Mayim Chaim . He also authored Sidduro shel Shabbat and Sha’arei Tefillah .
