Decorated porcelain plate. Souvenir from the Rebbetzin of Satmar. Rosenthal. Germany, 10.2.1950. 10.2 cm. diameter. Rim decorated in gold, floral decorations at center. The plate features gold text: א מתנה פון סטאמארער רעבעצין, נאכין באזוך אין א”י, תשכ”ה. [Yiddish: A gift from the Satmar Rebbetzin, next year in Eretz Yisrael, 1965]. Rabbi Yoel Teitelbaum (1887-1979) was the first Admor of Satmar. He was a prominent leader and was a powerful force in the rehabilitation of the Chassidic world in the United States after the Holocaust. In 1951, he was appointed “nasi” (president) of the Eidah HaCharedis in Eretz Yisrael and agreed to visit every three years. This memento was given by his wife Alte Feiga after their last visit to Eretz Yisrael in 1965. The plate is from the Rosenthal factory in Bahnof-Selb, made in Germany, 1950. Very fine condition.
