Handwritten owner’s signature of Rabbi Shlomo Zilberstein of Grosswardein on the title page. Rabbi Shlomo Zilberstein was born in Bonyhad in 1814 to his father, Rabbi Aharon, who was a disciple of Rabbi Mordechai Bennett. Rabbi Shlomo and his brother Rabbi David Leib, author of Shvilei David , studied under Rabbi Koppel Charif of Werbau. In 1843, Rabbi Shlomo was chosen as rabbi of the Sarkad community, but due to his opposition to “innovators,” he moved to Grosswardein, was an adjudicator in the city and preacher in the Ahavat Reim synagogue. He completed Shas five times, and the sixth time he reached tractate Sanhedrin. He passed away in 1909, on his 95th birthday. His Torah novellae were printed by his grandson in Ohel Moshe [Grosswardein, 1928].
