Colored “HaMelech” megillah with illustrations across its entire length. Printed reproduction, cloth-backed. The megillah is 28 cm. Brown wood rollers. Elegant sheath of grey cloth with red leather tags with gold text. Along with a book explaining the illustrations by Michael Kaniel and Bezalel Narkiss. 25 pages: 5 [leaves] illustrations, 28 cm. Number 111 of 500 copies, with a stamped certificate of authenticity.
This “Kaniel” megillah is a magnificent sample of illuminated megillot that were crafted in Europe starting in the 16th century. It was apparently made in Europe, 1740-50, and has colored illuminations below and above the sections of text.
