Ktav Rabbanut of Rabbi Yosef Rosen of Passaic, New Jersey. [1938]. 35×55 cm. “Ktav Rabbanut Olamit” given to Rabbi Yosef Rosen by the community of Passaic, New Jersey. The document describes his greatness and his contribution to the community. It mentions that he successfully served as rabbi for 12 years, and they are presenting this document to testify that he will be the community rabbi for the rest of his life – until the coming of the Messiah, when the entire community will immigrate to Jerusalem together with the Rabbi and again renew his writ of rabbinate. The document is signed with two signatures and a relief stamp. Scribal letters, colored, decorated columns on the right and left, Stars of David and the names of six community leaders. Rabbi Yosef Rosen was born in שווערזנא [near Minsk] in [1865]. He studied in Mir and then Volozhin by the Netziv and by Rabbi Chaim of Brisk. In [1891], he received semicha by the Netziv and the “Gadol of Minsk” who called him a genius and praised him effusively. In 1903, he served as rabbi of Svislotz [near Grodno]. In [1924], he moved to the United States, and in [1926], he became rabbi of a Kollel in Passaic, New Jersey and published many articles in the Yagdil Torah journal.
