The letter was written at the time that he served as rabbi of Cincinnati, Ohio. Rabbi Eliezer Silver [1881-1968] was born in Lithuania. He was one of the first disciples of Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinski, av”d Vilna; and he learned by Rabbi Dovid Karliner and Rabbi Chaim Soloveitchik. In 1907, he moved to the United States where he served as President of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada and was one of the foremost Orthodox rabbis of American Jewry.
