Rav Peninim commentary on Proverbs (with the source text) by Rabbi Moshe Alshich. Di Gara Press. First edition, printed just after his passing. The book includes 202 [ר”ב] sections, which is the reason for its name, Rav Peninim. Includes extensive indices beginning with a comment by the author, ztz”l, about the indices. The sage Yitzchak Gershon writes at the end of the indices that the book’s printing concluded on the 5th of Elul [חודש אני לדודי ודודי לי] in the year אלשי”ך [Alshich; 1601] “To inform you that he and his names are all one.” The book was brought to print by Rabbi Chaim, son of the author, with an interesting foreword. There is an interesting apology on the last page by the renowned proofreader, R’ Yisrael HaJifroni: “Who will understand mistakes, truly and honestly made by people who are empty and reckless … and who can correct what he has distorted and the deeds he has done at night and on eves of Shabbats when the pests were born and who am I to sadden them …” Rabbi Moshe Alshich [1507-1600] was among the few rabbinic leaders to have his name mentioned together with the description “holy.” He was one of the leading sages of Safed during its golden era, a disciple of Rabbi Yosef Tiatachachek and Rabbi Yosef Karo. He was Rabbi Chaim Vital’s teacher in Talmud and in halachah. 191, [1] leaf. 19 cm. HaMadpis Juan di Gara V’Reshimat Sifrei Beit Defuso – 210. Very fine condition. Owner’s signature. Aging stains.
