Silk-satin cloth with silver embroidery and small disks. Apparently, the baby was placed on this cloth during the brit milah. Italy, 19th century.
36×96 cm. The upper section of the cloth is silk-satin. It has a rectangular linen lining; one side is straight and the second is pointy. Features embroidery with silver threads that form a border of flowers and leaves across its entire length and other floral designs at center. The letters ש.ד.י. appear at the top, typical of Italian ritual items. The outline of a Star of David can be seen – the star has unraveled.
