Ownership signatures of Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Neuweiser of Kovno. His handwritten signature is at the top of the title page, and he wrote his name in tiny artistic script within the letters of the word “HeRemaz” on the title page, as well as in the word “HaMekubal.” On the last page is the stamp of Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Neuweiser.
Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Neuweiser was a philanthropist and faithful member of the Kovno community, and was known as the “righteous philanthropist.” He invited Rabbi Yisrael Salanter to Kovno, hosted him in his house and even supported him, and he was the only one from whom Rabbi Yisrael was prepared to receive. He also established the kloiz in the city, and even supported those who learned in it in a dignified manner. Supplemental background material included with the item.
