Background: In 1919, about a year after the establishment of the Weimar Republic in Germany, a group of WWI Jewish veterans established an organization called RJF: Reichsbund Jüdischer Frontsoldaten (Reichsbund of Jewish Front Soldiers), an organization with the goal of representing discharged Jewish soldiers as well as fighting rising antisemitism. The Der Schild (” The Shield ” in German) newspaper was this organization’s newsletter.
In this issue’s front-page story, there is an article about Jews who served in the Luftwaffe (the German air force) during the War.
