Scribal script on official stationery, signed and stamped by the great Rabbi Yisrael Meir HaKohen, author of Chafetz Chaim. The letter was written in Yiddish, and is addressed to the benevolent Mrs. Channah Salew of Chicago, USA, for her donation in support of the Chafetz Chaim’s yeshivah. Radin, 1926. The Chafetz Chaim blesses with abundance: “B’zechus di heilige mitzvah fun hachzakas haTorah …” and freely translated: May G-d help you in all matters and fulfill all your heart’s desires for the good. Rabbi Yisrael Meir HaKohen of Radin [1838-1933], known as “the Chafetz Chaim” was the rosh yeshivah of Radin (as attested to by this letter) and author of Mishnah Berurah, Shemirat HaLashon, and dozens more books which became fundamental books of the Jewish bookshelf. The entire Jewish people relies upon his rulings as on one of the Early Authorities. Even during his lifetime, the Jewish people called after him, “Mekudash, mekudash,” and he is known to have had obvious Divine Inspiration (רוח הקודש), in that all he said would come to pass. He participated in the Kenessiah HaGedolah in Vienna in 1923 and was selected as the world president of the Council of Torah Sages. [1] leaf official stationery 27×21 cm. Yiddish. Fine condition.
