Shirei HaNefesh – elucidation of Shir HaShirim by Rabbi Meir Leibush Malbi”m. The top part of the page contains the vowelized text of Shir HaShirim, with cantillation. Underneath, there are two commentaries by the Malbi”m: “Mishlei” and “Melitzah.” There is a lengthy introduction at the beginning of the work entitled ‘Mevoh HaMachberet’ and a compilation, ‘HaCheresh V’HaMasger,’ at its end. This was one of the Malbi”m’s first compositions, written while he was still rabbi of Cîmpanii. It was printed with the goal of responding firmly to Mendelssohn’s commentary and elucidation of Shir HaShirim. [1], 43 leaves, 20.5 cm. Two title pages. Owners’ inscriptions. Fine condition.
