Voucher for a six-year-old boy to receive milk and food. From the head of the ghetto, Lodz Ghetto. 1940.
[1] leaf, paper. 11×14 cm. German.
Background: In contrast to other ghettoes where food and basic necessities were to a large degree based on smuggling from outside the ghetto, in Lodz it was almost completely impossible due to the strict meticulousness of the German authorities. The Jews were entirely dependent on the German authorities and the Judenrat for everything related to food, medicine and essential supplies. As a result, starvation and disease were rampant in the ghetto. Approximately 164,000 people were forced to crowd into an area of four square kilometers, of which only 2.4 km were habitable. In 1944, the ghetto was liquidated by the German authorities.
Condition: Very fine.
