Tanya. A collection of articles by the Admor Rebbe Shneur Zalman of Lubavitch [Sudilkov]. [1805-1814?]. Unknown edition. Unusually rare. [3] 2-59 [1] 60-69, 50-59 leaves, 19 cm. Glosses in handwriting. An early unknown edition of Sefer HaTanya. On the leaf [1] that is after leaf 59 the names of different typesetters in Sudiklov are printed. Rabbi Y. Mondshein, Sefer HaTanya, 7, registers a similar edition which is in the library of Lubavitch. According to the editing of R’ H. Lieberman in 1814. However see: S. Kraus, the first printing of the Tanya in the Ukraine, in the Beit Mashiach folio 21 (1995), pp. 28-31, who writes that they should consider the year of printing as around 1805, and explains the great importance of doing so. This edition is rare. In this volume the title page and the beginning are different from those in the edition in the Lubavitch library. The frame of the title page and the writing in it are different from what is written in the copy in the library of Lubavitch where it is mistakenly written: ‘holy’ קדוש. In our copy it is correctly written ‘close’ קרוב . Also the copy in the National Library in Jerusalem is identical to the copy that is registered by Mondshein, as is the photograph of the title page in the Beit Mashiach folio. We have here an unknown edition of Sefer HaTanya! Material regarding this matter is attached. New binding. Damaged parts on the title page artistically restored. Moth holes. Age stains. Moderate-good condition.
