Condition: Volume one: fine-very fine. A few leaves are detached. Volume two: Fine, binding is detached, a number of leaves are detached.

Unique features: Very rare. On pages 55-56 is Masechet Purim. At the beginning of the book, after the cover, is a leaf which seems to have been printed by lithograph in 1916, with a letter from the author in Yiddish, asking for people to support him in his old age.
Condition: The book’s leaves are in very fine condition. The binding cover is detached and torn with lack, and the letter after the title page is detached.
Mikveh Yisrael. Laws of mikva’ot by Rabbi Zvi Grodzinsky, Rabbi of Omaha [United States]. One of the first halachic works printed in the United States.

Unique features: Includes all the laws written in the Shulchan Aruch and its commentaries, with all the laws dispersed throughout the later responsa that were accepted as halacha. With two elucidations: Mikveh Mayim and Mekor Mayim Chaim. Approbation from Rabbi Yitzchak Elchonon Spector of Kovno that was sent to America.Uncommon work. Possibly the first halachic work printed in America.
Background: The author was born in [1857] and studied with his relative, Rabbi Dovid Shlomo Grodzinsky of Iwye, in Kovno and the Volozhin Yeshiva. In 1891, he immigrated to the United States where he served as rabbi of Omaha, Nebraska. After publishing this work, he authored other books and published many articles. He passed away in [1947].
Condition: Excellent. New binding.
Responsa, decisions and elucidations, Maamar Yesod HaShtarot and other compilations on a wide range of subjects, by Rabbi Aryeh Leib Bresla, Av Beit Din Emden and Rotterdam.

Unique features: Impressive copy, thick white paper, wide margins. One of the most fascinating responses, siman 41, relates to a donor named Chaim from Philadelphia, in the United States, who acquiesced to the author’s request and sent a donation to a needy person. In the meantime, the poor person became wealthy and no longer needs the donation. At the start of his response, the author praises the American philanthropist’s generous heart.
Background: The author held halachic correspondence with the sages of his generation: Rabbi Pinchas HaLevi Horowitz, the Baal Hafla’a; Rabbi Yeshaya Pick Berlin; Rabbi Dovid Tevle, Av Beit Din of Lissa; and Rabbi Meir Posner, author of Beit Meir.
Condition: Very fine-excellent. Old, rubbed leather binding. Minimal aging stains.

Content: Large work on the Jerusalem Talmud, Tractate Bikurim, with the text of the Talmud. With approbations from Rabbi Yosef Dov Soloveitchik of Brisk and Rabbi Yaakov Yosef of New York. Decorated title page followed by a “manoach shlucha” within a decorated border.
Unique features: One of the first Hebrew works printed in Chicago, and one of the first scholarly works printed in America in general. In his preface, the author discusses conditions in America.Rare work. The number of pages in this copy matches the listing of the Bibliography of the Hebrew Book; however there are a few copies with an additional frontispiece. Owner stamps, Eliyahu Hercenberg of Libau, rabbi of the “Chevrat Anshei Korland Brooklyn,” and Zvi Hirsh HaKohen of Jerusalem.
Background: Rabbi Avraham Eliezer Alperstein [1853-1913] was born in Kobrin and studied with his relative, the Ridvaz. He served as rabbi in Novogorad and Slobodka. In 1880, he moved to the United States where he served as rabbi in Chicago and New York.
