Open letter to Sir Moses Montefiore, from Rabbi Meir Auerbach ztz”l and Rabbi Shmuel Salant ztz”l, heads of the Ashkenazi Beit Din of Jerusalem, 1875. On the occasion of Montefiore’s arrival in Jerusalem. Accompanied by a description of his visit to Israel. London, 1875.
A long letter from the rabbis intended to dispel the harsh criticism of the Jewish (especially the Ashkenazi) community in Jerusalem which appeared in publications in London, following the visit of delegation from London in Israel. The delegation portrayed the Jewish yishuv as being in a state of great poverty, with no employment in trade, dependent on others and not productive, unclean, sick, and with no orderly leadership. In their letter, the rabbis refute the delegation’s claims one by one, and inform Montefiore about the true condition of the Jews through direct acquaintance with the yishuv. It is known that Montefiore himself supported the view of these rabbis, against the denigrators, and he funded the printing of the book in London. The rabbis address Montefiore with many honorifics: “And now the prince and president of our land”, “Our master the prince”, “We have established a prayer on your behalf, for Hash-m to guard your going and coming” and more.
A picture of Montefiore from the 19th century is attached to the beginning of the book. Original blue cardboard binding with gilded decorations and writing on the Hebrew and English title pages. Gilded page cut.
148 pages. 24 cm. 148 pages in English, with a special title page for the English section: An Open Letter to Sir Moses Montefiore, Bartt.

HaRav Mi’Liadi U’Mifleget Chabad, by Rabbi Mordechai Teitelbaum, Toshia Publishing, Warsaw, 1913. [2] volumes.
Thorough biographical work about the “Admor HaZaken,” Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi, also known as the “Baal HaTanya,” and the Chabad-Lubavitch movement. The first volume discusses the rabbi’s history and the second expounds upon his methodology. The leaf subsequent to the first part’s title page features a picture of the Baal HaTanya, and musical notes for one of his melodies. Parallel German and Hebrew title pages.
In the publisher’s preface, Rabbi Shmuel son of Levi Yitzchak Schneerson wrote that unlike the books that were published previously – which narrate only wondrous tales regarding the Admor HaZaken’s forefathers, whether true or false, and thus imagine their duty fulfilled – this author clarified all the necessary details, including the stories’ credibility and sources, and obtained important documents; and only on this basis wrote his book. He ensured the full credibility in the stories’ transmission, and moreover wrote them objectively, without any additions, hypotheses, opinions, and views of his own.
It is said in the name of the Rash”b that the author “well understood” the Admor HaZaken’s way and methodology, and he [the Rash”b] cherished his book.

Jubilee book in honor of Rabbeinu Shimon Yehuda HaKohen Shkop: On the occasion of fifty years of his productive work teaching Torah / presented by his students and friends; accompanied by a large compilation by the rabbi himself, called Ma’arechet HaKiyanim . Vilna 1936. With a portrait picture of Rabbi Shimon Shkop at the beginning of the book.
The first part of the book opens with Rabbi Shimon Shkop’s biography – a rare thing in itself – to write a biography of a Torah leader during his lifetime. Articles of appreciation by Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinsky, Rabbi Isser Yehuda Unterman (memories), and other important articles from rabbinic leaders. The second part includes halachic and scholarly articles by his students, the third part is a work by Reb Shimon himself, Ma’arechet HaKinyanim .
The book was published by instruction of Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinsky, which he wrote in the opening article to the book: ‘As I surely know and recognize this pure and gentle soul, and the modesty of his righteousness, he will feel uncomfortable and the praise before him will be a strain, as well as the issue of the jubilee which is not the custom of our elder rabbis – but Rabbi Shimon has strained me, the strain of the holy work of bearing the burden of the yeshiva, so he must forgive this and bear this burden as well due to its purpose, the issue of finding relief for the yeshiva, to lighten its heavy load and the onus of debt hanging over it, which will guide him to rest …’ A jubilee fund was opened for fundraising for the yeshiva parallel to the publishing the book, and Rabbi Chaim Ozer viewed the book as an important means for the success of the fund – in the same introduction, he writes: ‘ Be strong and every one should be strengthened according to his potential and ability to maintain the wonderful yeshiva … honored friends, please take hold of the ‘gates of Torah,’ so that they are not, Heaven forbid, locked, wake up and rouse yourselves to do something concrete for the existence of the yeshiva, for the sake of the jubilee fund …’
