Some are in color, most are in black and white. Protected by transparent envelopes, general condition is excellent.

Width 36 cm. 24 pictures of the Land of Israel (height 17 cm. width 22.5 cm.) from the photographer Yakov Ben Dov. Each picture is attached on a separate page and protected by transparent paper. On the preceding page is a description of the picture. The album was produced by the photographer and bound in a fancy leather binding by Betzalel Yerushalyim with a copper relief of the walls of Jerusalem, the City of David. Very fine condition except for light rubbing on the binding.

Rare Historical Collection of Original Photographs and Postcards of the Chinese Jewish Battalion, Shanghai. 1930s-1940s. Some 100 different items, in different sizes. Two rare membership certificates from the Hebrew Congregation in Zindow. A photocopy of the release certificate of a Jewish soldier. Rare collection of the soldier Paul Samsonovich who served in the Jewish Company of the Volunteer Soldiers SVC in Shanghai in the 1930s. The collection includes original photographs and rare documentation from the service of the soldier during close to nine years. The photographs include pictures of the soldier and his army friends, Shanghai during the War, sand bags, trenches, artillery, guns and bombing damage photographed by the soldier, in addition to Chinese postcards. The Jewish Company was active between the years 1932-1942, as part of the international force of volunteers in Shanghai (SVC). The Company was set-up following a meeting of the alumni of the Scouts with active members of the Beitar branch in Shanghai. In the year 1932, it was decided to integrate within the existing division of the international volunteer force organization. The Company’s flag was the Israeli flag and their pin combined the Star of David within it. They were the only official Jewish Company in the world which was active during these years. Those mobilized came from within the local Jewish community which was comprised of merchants such as Sassoon from Bombay, immigrants from the pogroms in Russia and later on also refugees from the War in Europe. The Company’s function was to protect the security of trade.During the Japanese bombings it acted on behalf of those affected, amongst them the Jews. On the arrival of Jewish refugees from Europe, the Company assisted them to settle down in Shanghai.

These photographs of Moshav Zekenim Vezekenot Hameuchad (United) were photographed after the expansion of the pace in the 1930s. The condition of the photographs is very good. A postcard of the famous picture of the Chacham (Sage) Yosef Chaim of Baghdad (the Ben Ish Chai) when he was 26 years old. Within a frame with his name hand written Sofer and in Latin letters. On the back part of the postcard, Sephardic handwriting not deciphered. In very good condition.

Pictures from the end of the life of the Saba from Slobodka, surrounded by his students, apparently in the city of Hebron. The back of the postcard is unused, with headings in French. Harav Nathan Zvi Finkel 5609 -5687 [1849-1927], the Grandfather of Slobodka, the founder of Yeshivat Knesset Yisrael in Slobodka, one of the heads of the Mussar Movement in Eastern Europe and one of the great Roshei Yeshivot. Immigrated to Israel in 5684 (1924) and transferred his yeshivah to the City of Hebron due to his refusal to combine secular studies at the yeshivah. In good condition.
Postcard of a picture of HaRav Yosef Chaim Zonnenfeld and the President of Czechoslovakia, Thomas Masaryk. Prague, 1933. 9 x 14 cm. This is the famous picture of HaRav Yosef Chaim Zonnenfeld receiving the President of Czechoslovakia, Thomas Masaryk, at the time of his trip to Jerusalem in the year 1927. In the picture can be seen the Rabbi taking off his hat as a sign of respect to the president. The postcard was printed in Prague in the year 1933, a year after the death of Rabbi Zonnenfeld, possibly during the eighteenth Zionist Congress which took place there. HaRav Yosef Chaim Zonnenfeld (1849-1932), was the first Rabbi of the Eidah Charedit in Jerusalem, and one of the leaders of Jerusalem. In very good condition.
