Includes Kabbalistic prayers and supplications. The editor of the book is Rabbi Yosef Chaim David Azoulay – the Chid”a, and the book was printed in his lifetime, in Livorno, where he lived. On the title page, his name is inferred by use of the word “אחדים.” In his book Avodat HaKodesh-Moreh B’Etzba , he wrote: “And I, in my insufficiency, arranged a simple confession … and it has been printed in Mishmeret HaTaharah , which I arranged.” Leaf 7 contains a prayer by the Chid”a for repentance, healing and success with Kabbalistic Name intentions. The book was printed in Livorno, where the Chid”a lived, in his lifetime. The title page includes the words “דברים אחדים” as a hint on the title page, as well as a list of several of the Chida”s books, and on the reverse of the title page, ‘גזרת נחש’ as another lyrical reference to the Chid”a’s name. On leaf 17: “Heard by me directly from our rabbi, the Chid”a …”
The publisher. Rabbi Ya’akov Moshe Iyash, was a rabbi in several Italian communities, and the proofreader, Rabbi Shmuel b”r Moshe HaKohen, was a close associate of the Chid”a’s.

Including 13 sermons followed by hymns composed by the author to correspond the count of the 13 Attributes of Mercy and the date he was saved from execution. Among the hymns: ‘A hymn for when a miracle was done for me [to rescue me] from the enemy, may his name be obliterated, “a hymn for the Chacham Aharon Asulin, the miracle worker, one of the sages of his village, Farkla, whose merit upheld those in the village’s Jewish cemetery, when the person who came to smash the Jews’ tombstones froze in place.”
With a hymn in honor of Rash”i, a hymn in honor of Rabbi Ya’akov Abuchatzeira and others. With dozens of names of ‘the people’s volunteers’ from the cities of Morocco.
The author, Rabbi Yosef ben Harush , was born in the village of Ferlka, in the Tefilalt district of Morocco. He studied Torah under his father, Chacham Yichye ben Harush, who was a dayan and rabbinic instructor in Ferkla, and with his uncles, Chacham Shlomo ben Harush and Chacham Moshe ben Harush. In 1920 the Barbarian tribes began to revolt against the French Protectorate and against the Sultan of Morocco. Mullai bin Qassam, leader of the Barbaric tribes in the Tefilalt region, identified the Jews as supporters of the French, and began harassing the Jews. In the village of Rissani, where the Abuchatzeira family lived, the most senior of the brothers, Chacham David Abuchatzeira, was executed, and many Jews of the area fled to Colomb-Basser, which was held by the French. The harassment also arrived in Ferkla. On 13 Iyyar, 1921, Rabbi Yosef ben Harush was taken to be burned at the stake. Only the entreaties of the city’s Jews, and the offer to redeem him for money, saved him from the stake.

Rabbi Binyamin Artom [1835-1879] was born in Italy and immigrated to England. He served as rabbi of the Sephardic community in London beginning in 1866, and published siddurim with English translations and more.
