Stamps: “The youth David Halperin Av Beit Din of Domvshitz, son-in-law of the gaon of Radomyśl” – on the title page of the second volume, on the flyleaf, and on the last leaf. Additional penciled inscription apparently handwritten by Rabbi David Halperin, that the book cost him a lot, with a signature.
Rabbi David Halperin was born in 1897 to his father Rabbi Matityahu Chaim Halperin, rabbi of Dovshitz, a scion of geonim. He was the son-in-law of Rabbi Shmuel Engel, “Mahara”sh Engel,” the gaon of Radomyśl. He moved to live near him in Kashoi, and assisted him for 15 years, as well as editing and publishing his many books. After his father’s passing in 1933, he was selected to succeed him as rabbi of Dovshitz, but he did not actually live there. He authored Shem MiShmuel about his great father-in-law, and the book also includes thoughts by his son, Elchanan Halperin, who was yet a youth. He passed away after being liberated from the labor camps on 3 Tammuz 1945. His son is Rabbi Elchanan [Chuna] Halperin of Radomyśl, who lived in Golders Green, London.
Overall fine condition.
