Rabbi Shimshon Raphael Hirsch [1808-1889], leader of the Orthodox community of Germany in the 19th century, wrote many compositions in German for the Jews of Germany. The Admo”r of Gur, author of Imrei Emet , said of him that “What the Chatam Sofer was for Hungarian Jewry, Rabbi Shimshon Raphael Hirsch was for German Jewry.”
