Placard in Yiddish – Stating that Rabi Meir Ba’al HaNes funds are not to be used for other charities, and the monies are designated only for those living in the Land of Israel. Signed by Rabbi Shmuel Salant. The top of the placard has a copy of a placard from 1821 signed by R’ Aryeh Leib of the Katzenelenbogen family of Brisk, Rabbi Chaim of Volozin, Rabbi Akiva Eiger, the author of Chemdat Shlomo , and more. Further down, there is a letter from Admo”rs on the same topic “from several years earlier”: Letter from R’ Levi Yitzchak of Berdichev signed by 12 more tzaddikim of the generation.

R’ Shlomo Ganzfried, author of Kitzur Shulchan Aruch , criticized R’ Chaim of Sanz’s Divrei Chaim in his book Ohelei Shem . Rabbi Webber, who was a close associate of R’ Chaim of Sanz, put out a booklet entitled Milchemet Chovah [Jerusalem 1882] against Rabbi Ganzfried, who then responded in the compilation Michseh LaOhel , which was appended to Kitzur Shulchan Aruch . The compilation before us comes to Rabbi Webber’s defense in face of Rabbi Ganzfried’s attacks. Including: a word for word copy of Michseh LaOhel , and letters praising R’ Mordechai Eliezer, from the leaders of the communities in which he had served as rabbi, and from various rabbis. This publication was published by R’ Mordechai Eliezer himself in 1885, as he writes in his composition Ofel U’Vachan .
