A printed letter with the signature of the Rebbe of Ungvar Rabbi Menashe Klein [who referred to himself as ‘Menashe HaKatan’]. The letter was sent to Rabbi Eliyahu Sternbuch, the chief Dayan of the Machzikei Hadat congregation in Antwerp-Belgium.
An in-depth halachic discussion on the novaelle of the Gaon from Brisk regarding a sick person who is danger of death on Yom Kippur, who is fed less than a Shiur within Achilat Pras. In addition to the Rebbe’s signature in the letter’s margins is a short gloss in his handwriting.
The Rebbe Rabbi Menashe Klien [1923-2011], Av Beit Din of the Ungvar congregation, and Rosh Yeshiva of the Beit She’arim yeshiva in Brooklyn and later in Israel. Thousands of responsa which he wrote on halachic topics were printed in the book “Shu”t Meshane Halachot”. He was in touch with the Rebbe of Klausenberg Rabbi Yekutiel Yehuda Halberstam, as well as with the Steipler Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael Kanievsky, which whom he corresponded extensively on a range of topics. In his responsa he gave great importance to customs which originate with Hungarian Jewry.
