A photograph album documenting the activities of the “Shomriyah” educational institute in Kibbutz Mishmar HaEmek, 1948.
The album contains 25 photographs showing the institute’s activities during the period of the War of Independence. Among them: A guard holding a gun, a procession of students with guns, Chaim Weizmann visiting the institute, the institute building which was damaged by shelling, children at roll-call, a choir of the institute’s children, a sport demonstration by children on the institute’s roof, in the swimming pool, folk dancing, and more.
The institute, which was founded in 1931, was the first educational institute of the “HaShomer HaZair” movement.
On the album’s binding is a copper plate in the form of the institute’s central building.
