Most of the elegies are in Hebrew with a little in Arabic. Most are from North African poets. Many of the pages are headed עת ספוד. Leaves 165a-187b: elegies for the dead by Yaakov Ibn Tzur, some with names of deceased. – primarily Moroccan Torah scholars with the date of their death. Includes elegies in Arabic for the Ten Martyrs, for Zecharya ben Yehoyada and more.
With a colophon from one copier: כתיבת ידי אני…מרדכי אדרעי (95b, 100a). This refers to Mordechai ben Simchon Edri who copied the manuscript in Columbia University X 893 M 6858 in Fez [1696]. Owner notes from the Danan family [see Hebrew catalogue description].
This manuscript was passed down from father to son in the illustrious Ibn Danan family. Due to time constraints, this manuscript has not been compared to other similar manuscripts and printed literature.
