Printed letter from the Chafetz Chaim regarding the plunder and tribulation that “we heard from our brethren, residents of Russia, the depressed and persecuted by their persecutors who decree terrible decrees in order to force them to renounce their faith.” The poster was printed while the Chafetz Chaim was still alive, it was titled: “Request in the name of the Gedolei Yisroel shlit”a” from the “end of Elul 1928.” Kreines – Koyalaski press, Vilna.
In the poster, the Chafetz Chaim asks for the recital of a prayer authored by the Chida, found in the “Avodat HaKodesh,” on behalf of Russian Jewry who were subjected to terrible decrees “so that they renounce their faith.” He also asks that prior to Neila, they should recite chapters 70 and 109 of Psalms. The Chafetz Chaim ends by requesting that all Jewish newspapers should publicize this prayer throughout the Jewish world….”
