Letter with divrei Torah handwritten and signed by Rabbi Ya’akov Yisrael Kanievsky, the Steipler. 1962.
This letter was written in response to letters about the halachahs of Shemittah. At the beginning of the letter, the Steipler, in his humility, writes that he is not presently involved with the sugya (of Shemittah), and it is difficult for him to look into these matters at present, but G-d willing, during the upcoming Shemittah year (1965-6), he will look into it.
Later on, the Steipler writes his response, while noting that it is very quick, and he is copying these words so that the letter does not remain blank. He adds another paragraph after his signature, again noting that he has not looked closely into the matter.
