Lengthy and beautiful letter, entirely handwritten and signed by the sacred gaon Rabbi Menachem Mendel Halberstam, may his blood be avenged, rabbi and av beit din of Kshanov (Chrzanów), grandson of the Divrei Chaim of Sanz. Sent to a member of the Bada”tz Chassidim in Jerusalem which was led by the gaon and Chassid Rabbi Yitzchak Frankel. Kshanov, 1924.
In this interesting letter, the Kshanov rebbe writes to the members of the Bada”tz in Jerusalem about the inheritance of a Kshanov townsman who passed away in Jerusalem, and his family knows that he left a huge treasure trove in Jerusalem with pearls, gems, silver items, cash and more “and he also bought land in his lifetime.” But all the property has disappeared as if swallowed up by the earth. Rabbi Halberstam requests in his letter in the deceased’s name, from the beit din , to investigate the custodian regarding the fate of the property. He then hints that it would be worthwhile to check with the deceased’s widow in Jerusalem, and warn her about the severity of the situation, concluding “especially as his children here are not wealthy and need it.”
