Small-format manuscript – large anthology of approximately 450[!] bakashot and piyyutim , by various hymnists and songwriters over the generations. Some of these became inalienable assets of the Jewish people. [Aleppo, late 19th century.] Beautiful scribal script with illustrated initials.
Oriental bakashot singing is known to have a special charm, and earned much acclaim. Many of the piyutim were sung (and some are still sung) in synagogues, at Shabbat meals and at celebrations. Very large collection of about 450 piyyutim ; some unknown.
Authors of the piyyutim include: Rabbis Ya’akov Abadi, Yeshua Sassoon, Yeshayah Atiyah, Ezra Atiyah, Yitzchak Dabach, Raphael Shalem, Michael HaKohen. Most of the piyyutim include acrostics of their first names only: Avraham, David, Raphael, Shalom, Shaul, Eliyahu, Moshe, Menachem, Yosef, Avtalyon, Mordechai, Yisrael, Yehudah, Michael, Nissim, Yosef David, Shlomo, Yedidyah, Shmuel, Chalfon, and others.

Overall fine condition. One leaf with a large tear with lack; possibly lacking a leaf or two. Usage and aging stains, ink stains. Slight tears (restored) in several leaves. Beautiful old binding with a leather spine, somewhat worn.
