Rabbi Nissim Avraham Ashkenazi [d. 1860] served as a judge in the rabbinical court of Izmir aside Rabbi Chaim Palachi. He studied Torah with his father Rabbi Rephael Ashkenzi [ Otzar HaRabbanim 17781], and was one of the sages of Izmir in his time. His home was a gathering place for sages and his house was open to all the people of the city. He authored a wide range of literature, some of which was published in his lifetime, with some published later by his nephews. His books include: Nechmad L’Mareh – a commentary on the Jerusalem Talmud, Ma’aseh Avraham – responsa on the four parts of Shulchan Aruch, Derash Avraham – sermons and commentary on the Torah, Na’eh Doresh – various sermons, Naeh Lehodot – commentary on Psalms.
