Sefer Beit Shlomo – responsa and legal decisions in the order of Arba Turim by Rabbi Shlomo ibn Chasson, son of Rabbi Aharon ibn Chasson. Salonika, 1720. First edition. Uncommon book. Chacham Mordechai Yisrael’s artistic signature appears on the top of the title page. The latter was one of the rabbinic leaders of Jerusalem in the 19th century.
The author, Rabbi Shlomo ibn Chasson, was one of the early sages of Salonika . He passed away in 1621, about a hundred years before the book was printed. He was an associate of Rabbi Chaim Shabtai and Rabbi Yitzchak ben Shlomo HaLevi. He also authored Shu”t Mishpatim Yesharim .
The owner of the book, Chacham Mordechai Yisrael, was a 19th-century Jerusalem sage. In 1896, he signed alongside Rabbi Raphael Meir Panigel on an important document of regulations by Jerusalem’s rabbis regarding a tax on every bride and bridegroom.
