The Bible in pictures. Over 100 pictures by noted artist Gustave Doré, depicting Biblical episodes. Each picture on a complete page with an accompanying Hebrew verse. Black and white. Printed by Sinai Tel Aviv, [1946]. First edition. Bezalel Jerusalem binding.
Impressive, brown leather binding. Across most of the front cover there is a metal plate with etching work made by a Bezalel Jerusalem artist who signed M.M. [Moshe Murro?]. The plate depicts the building of the Hebrew University. With an English caption and the Bezalel symbol at the bottom. Etched underneath the plate are the words בצלאל ירושלם and תוצרת ארץ ישראל, and in English – Made in Palestine. The style of the work seems to indicate that the metal plate was made a few years before the book was printed, apparently c. 1930-1940.
The binding measures 17×12.5 cm. The Bezalel metal plate measures 10×6.5 cm.
Fine-very fine condition.
