“Birkei Yosef.” Emendations of Rabbi Yitzchak Ardit of Izmir, author of “Yakar HaErech” on the book “Birkei Yosef” Part 2 on “Yoreh Deah, ” “Even HaEzer” and” Choshen Mishpat” by Rabbi Chaim Joseph David Azulai. Livorno 1776. First Edition.
In the margins are glosses in Rabbi Yitzchak Ardit’s handwriting, some signed. On the title page is his signature with the addition of a note that he received this book as a gift form the book collection of his father-in-law Rabbi Chayim Moshe Ardit of Izmir (Rabbi Chayim Moshe Ardit was well-known. The responses “Avkat Rochel” to the “Beit Yosef” were published according to a manuscript in his gniza collection.)
Rabbi Yitzchak Ardit was a sage of Izmir who corresponded with the Hid’a on a number of subjects. The Hid”a liked and respected him very much, even though he was younger than him. In one place he wrote many words of endearment and praise of him:
“נשאל דוד מרחימאי דנפשאי חמיד ליבאי החכם השלם …….., רב חסדא נקיט בידיה תורה וגדולה כמה”ר יצחק ארדיט ממתא אזמיר”
(“P’tach Einay”m” Archin 18,A and see another reply to him in the responsa “Chayim Sha’al” Part 1, section 72) . Rabbi Yitzchak died in Izmir in 1812.
His book “Yakar HaErech” on Tractate Archin (Saloniki 1822) is the most comprehensive composition on Tractate Archin written.
On page 100, A is a gloss in a different handwriting, it should be investigated whether this comment is by the Hid’a himself.
The book is damaged.
