Bottle of blessed water, known for its wondrous supernatural properties, received directly from the Baba Sali, by the gaon Rabbi Chaim Dov Rubinstein, in-law of the Admo”r, the author of Pnei Menachem of Gur. This is an exceptional remnant from a sacred spring that once flowed and is now gone.
This original bottle of water and the water in it were kept at the gaon Rabbi Chaim Dov’s home, and he used this blessed water only in measured amounts, in case of illness or other necessary salvations. As appears in his son’s testimony included here: “Afterwards, the tzaddik gave Abba the bottle with the blessed water. Over the years, this water was very precious to Abba and he used it only in measured amounts …”
The Abuchatzeira family has a tradition of healing originating in a blessing from the head of the dynasty, Rabbi Ya’akov Abuchatzeira, given on water, that grants it the power of healing. Hence the Baba Sali’s affinity for sacred bottles of water that he would give his visitors.
It is appropriate to mention here the compelling story told by Rabbi Meir Mazuz, rosh yeshivah of Kiseh Rachamim, at his weekly class (Saturday night, of the week parashat Va’era was read, 29 Tevet, 2020): “This week is the hillulah of Rabbi Yisrael Abuchatzeira, a”h, who would work wonders with ease. One was Jewish and the other was not. They said they had been to the Baba Sali, who gave them water. One spilled the water out, and the other drank the water. The one who drank it conceived, and the other did not. The second one returned to the Baba Sali and asked why she, too, did not conceive. The tzaddik responded: Why are you coming to me with complaints? I gave you water with my intentions in it, and you spilled it out …”
