Chachmat Shlomo. Glosses and novella on Shas by Rabbi Shlomo Luria [Maharshal]. Amsterdam, [1691]. [2] 136 leaves. 19.5 cm. With the approbations of Rabbi Gershon Ashkenazi author of the responsa ‘Avodat HaGershoni’, Rabbi Yitzchak Abuhav, and Rabbi Yaacov Sasportas. In the writings of the Maharshal the publishers have added markers to places where the Maharsha has differences of opinion with the Maharshal. In masechet Eiruvin there are many diagrams — apparently because of the difficulty in printing the many drawings the novella of this masechta are printed at the end of the sefer. The signature of the owner is on the title page and on the leaf following: “Be compassionate Hashem to the insignificant one, Meir from Baiyeh”. Apparently he did not serve as a Rabbi, but was a great gaon in Torah. In the sefer ‘Tiferet Avot’ by Rabbi Binyamin Friedman of Mishkoltz, הי”ד, he writes in parashat Behaalotcha that “I have glosses on all Shisha Sidrei Mishna written on the folio of the mishnayot from a gaon whose name is R’ Meir of Baiyeh who lived close to the year 1780…”. Another signature of the owners on leaf 108. Old damaged binding. Tears on the title page with no loss of text. Age stains. A few moth holes.Good condition
