Novellae by Rabbi Akiva Eiger on tractates Baba Metzia, Gittin, Ketubot and other novellae. Berlin, 1858. First edition. Rabbi Tzvi Pesach Frank’s copy.
Last page bears Rabbi Tzvi Pesach Frank’s owner’s inscription and signature: ‘קניתי אותו ביום א’ דחנוכה תרנ”ד פעה”ק בעד עשרים גרוש צפ”פ” (“I bought [the book] on the first day of Chanukah, 1894 …”) Interestingly, Rabbi Frank sold the book approximately a year later, as evidenced by the purchaser’s handwritten inscription on the title page indicating that he bought it from Rabbi Frank himself: ”קניתי לכבוד צורי וקוני בשנת תרנ”ה ט”ו לחו’ אלול בעבור 13 גרוש מה”א ר’ צבי פסח פראנק’ (“I bought [the book] in honor of my creator on 15 Elul 1895 … from Rabbi Tzvi Pesach Frank”).
The gaon Rabbi Tzvi Pesach Frank [1873-1961], was rabbi of Jerusalem, and one of the greatest adjudicators and rabbis of his generation. He was successor to Rabbi Shmuel Salant as member of the Beit Din. His Torah novellae and halachic response were printed in the books: Shu”t Har Tzvi , Mikra’ai Kodesh , Mikdash Melech and more.
