Collection of military Passover haggadahs, most in a ‘unified text’ [‘נוסח אחיד’] with illustrations by period artists. The haggadahs were printed from the establishment of the State through the 1970s. Including the first IDF haggadah (1949).
Highlights:
* Pesach, Yalkut L’Chag HaCherut . Published by the Chief Military Rabbinate – Religious Services. 1949.
* Haggadah shel Pesach . Special edition of the Religious Services. Jerusalem, published by Levine-Epstein, 1949. In an envelope with greetings from the chief military rabbi, Shlomo Goronchik (Goren) and greetings from the staff of the Religious Services.
* Haggadah shel Pesach . Published by the Chief Military Rabbinate. 1950.
* Haggadah shel Pesach . Published by the Chief Military Rabbinate. 1951.
* Haggadah L’Sha’at Cherum . 1970.
And others.
It is interesting to see the evolving illustration of the haggadahs in relation to the various events of the period of the printing. Right after the Holocaust – Moshe Rabbeinu protecting the Hebrew children as Janusz Korczak protecting his charges, who were killed in the Holocaust. The exodus from Egypt – reminiscent of leaving the ghettos. At the establishment of the State – Rabbi Akiva and his disciples are illustrated as a military unit in uniform.
Overall fine condition. There are several double haggadahs.
