Rare and unique historic item – complete shu”t from the gadol hador the gaon Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, the final gadol with absolute mastery of Kol HaTorah Kulah . The manuscript covers dozens of leaves and deals with the most interesting questions [“checkaver”] across all Torah topics: halachah, drush , pilpul , pshat , and even Kabbalah[!].
As is known, the gaon Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky was among the leading “responders” of the past generation. Thousands would send their questions to him and he would respond. These letters of responsa are occasionally offered at auction, and their prices are increasing with time. This manuscript is completely different, as is written as a complete work in a question-and-answer style, in the format of familiar responsa literature.
One of the most interesting questions deals with the Chazon Ish’s astonishing promise that no missiles will fall in Bnei Brak. The writer asks the gadol hador : The gemara in Berachos 4a states, “Ya’akov was frightened and distressed, ” – in case sin would cause trouble. The explanation is that he was concerned that sin would interfere with Hashem’s promise, so how are we not concerned with sin interfering with the Chazon Ish’s promise that no missiles will fall in Bnei Brak? The gaon Rabbi Chaim responds “There are no sins in Bnei Brak”!
