Personal correspondence ledger of the gaon Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Leib Bamberger, av beit din of Kissingen, son of the gaon of Würzburg and son-in-law of the author of Aruch LaNer . Approximately [46] letters. Würzburg-Kissingen, 1865-1877. The inner part of the front binding bears the gaon Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Leib Bamberger’s foreign-language signature.
Rabbi Bamberger kept this ledger as a keepsake and a memento, with copies of the important letters he sent to gedolei haTorah and the leaders of the country. Among the letters in the register are: [3] letters to the great Minister Shimon Wolf, that is, Baron Rothschild of Frankfurt; letters to Rabbi Meir Lehman (who ‘stood in the breach against the wicked of the land’); letters to the gaon Rabbi Shlomo Ze’ev Klein, av beit din of Kolmar; to his son Rabbi Simchah Bamberger and many more.
Most of the letters were written in Yiddishe-Deutch, some in Hebrew and a few in German, as articles. The letters have not been not carefully examined and may contain interesting revelations. The gaon Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Leib Bamberger reconsidered one letter, and crossed it out.
