Rare book. This book is one of two early Hebrew books printed in Padua, northern Italy. The Hebrew press in Padua was established during a much later period. Owner’s notations: on leaf 2, Yitzchak Modiliano: “קנין כספי יצחק מודיליאנו” (apparently from Salonika), and on the title page, Avraham Kolon: “אברהם קולון.” Owners’ stamps: Rabbi Yehudah Leib Lazerov [1875-1939] who was a maggid in Lithuania and then in the United States, author of Kol Yehudah, Mateh Yehudah, Divrei Yehudah and others; and Rabbi Eliezer Silver [1882-1968], who was the president of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada. Rabbi Shem Tov HaZaken of Spain [d. 1430] was a rosh yeshivah and kabbalist in 15th century Spain. He also authored Sefer HaEmunot. He opposed those who wanted to base faith on philosophy. He also composed a kabbalistic work on the sephirot, and a commentary on tractate Avot. 81 leaves, 27.5 cm. Fine condition. Aging stains. Simple binding.
